    1. This is one of the best novels I've read in some time. It is a story about hope, healing, and the juxtaposition of light and dark forces in the life of a mythical English village. Well-written and compelling (I couldn't set it down), it's a spiritual and emotional quest for wholeness and finding one's way. Many books which place God in the lives of the characters are evangelical or even funny in their ineptness (the little heaps of clothing and eyeglasses in the Left Behind series as the "saved" [...]

    2. I absolutely loved this book. It was a gift from the mother of one of my Sunday School kids I teach. She told me that if I liked The Shack then I would certainly like this one. Interestingly, these two books are very different. The biggest difference is that I didn't cry when I read The Book of Hours. This book was very funny while still being inspirational and powerful. It makes you question your way of life, what you're actually willing to do in your Christian walk, which I believe any decent [...]

    3. This book was an amazingly compiled piece following the adventures of a certain Brian Blackwell as he returns to his inheritance of a relative's home and discovers mysteries hidden for hundreds of years in an attempt to rescue the home before it can be auctioned off to cover his back taxes. After losing his wife two years prior and traveling the world in the time since, Brian finds it difficult to fall back into a normal routine and build relationships with those he meets. Guided by letters from [...]

    4. Impressive! Mr. Bunn created a mystery, healed several souls and revealed quite eloquently the power of prayer. My only criticism is the need for more depth in the characters. The villains were caricatures and the vicar, whom I really liked, needed more fleshing out. I know that the castle needed depth because it is actually a character in the book, but the people needed the author's time as well. Why the title is The Book of Hours is both historically and religiously intriguing. That alone is w [...]

    5. This is one of the best books I've read in months. Beautifully written, I fell in love with the characters and Castle Keep. Though it had its flaws in too-convenient plotting, they were easily overlooked as you kept reading to find the end of the mystery. Surprisingly, the frequent Christian undertones didn't bother me at all. Very well done and one that will stay with me for a long time to come.

    6. this book was like a deep breath. a great story of moving past the past and embracing life. very descriptive and the mystery kept me up until 3am.

    7. I wondered in the beginning if I'd like this one, but I ended up enjoying it quite a bit. It's a puzzle plot in which they are trying to save the family castle for the good of the community. It shows the need for community and a place to belong. Early on there is little mention of spiritual things, but the last half contains more about the need for prayer and finding God. The plan of salvation is mentioned in a very vague way. I enjoyed these characters who are mainly British and use the same Br [...]

    8. I'm generally not a big fan of Christian fiction, but I really enjoyed this one! The importance of prayer was handled decently well for a novel, and the book inspired me to enter an hourly praise prompt into my calendar. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars instead of 5 is the implausibility of such an ill man recovering so quickly despite continued injuries and lack of sleep coupled with a lot of emotional growth in characters in only a few days time.Author - 1/2⭐️Story - 1/2⭐️Ending - [...]

    9. I loved this book! Very interesting plot, great characters, well written, clean, and faith-based, but not preachy. I loved the puzzles, the intimate look into an English community, and the way the author tied various parts of the plot together. Very enjoyable read. I'll be checking out other books by T. Davis Bunn.

    10. Wasn't sure that I would like this book, but it turned out to be an intriguing book. Makes me wonder if there is actually a "Book of Hours?"

    11. This book was a 4+ in the pleasure it gave -- a page-turning fast read with delightfully vivid characters and an underlying puzzle/mystery that tantalized the characters as well as the reader. It is an interesting combination of historical fiction, Christian fiction, and mystery, with some quality descriptive writing and an observer's talent for fleshing out characters that were real and compelling.Brian Blackstone has spent two long years running around the world and away from the reality that [...]

    12. Life lost its meaning after Brian Blackstone's wife died. After two years of hard travel around the world, he arrives at his wife's inheritance from her aunt, now his. Castle Keep is in deplorable shape. Not only that, the death duties he owes amount to one million, one hundred thousand dollars. His health is poor after hard living in Sri Lanka. He's too weak to carry his suitcases inside the night he arrives. His tenants notice, and resent him for expecting them to carry in the cases. Dr. Cecili [...]

    13. I really liked this book. Here is a peep inside; "If you'll forgive me for saying so, the matter is out of your hands?, replied the real estate agent. "The inheritance taxes are two years overdue, notices have been filed, and a date for the foreclosure auction has been set. I regret to inform you that come the end of next week unless you can raise six hundred and thirty thousand pounds, the estate is not yours to keep"Before he came to the end of his quest to save the property. Brian will learn [...]

    14. Great clean book. Brian arrives at this old castle sick and sad. He took off after the death of his wife and has been gone for two years. During that time he was hospitalized for over a month and is still weak. Now he is at the castle owned by his dead wife's deceased aunt. He finds out the taxes were never settled and the place is about to be auctioned off. There are a few twists and turns. This was a great clean read and I enjoyed it!

    15. I've read this book quite a few times over the years and have really enjoyed it every time! I love small villages (as a child I grew up in the wilderness amongst 13 other families), and understand exactly how everybody's business is everybody's business! That's just the way it is in a small village. If you hear a car go by, you know who it is coming or going because you know the sound of the car and the speed they always drive. You recognize the sound of footsteps and know who's they are simply [...]

    16. T Davis Bunn is a great Chirstian author. I have read many of his books and each one is unique and well researched. This book is set in England. I would read it again and I don't read books more than once!I just finished reading this book for the second time and enjoyed it's every page even more than the first time! I couldn't put it down because of the suspense. In completing it, I feel uplifted and fed spiritually. It is about a town in England with seven different churches that ring their bel [...]

    17. I have read this book before but it's so good it's worth a second or even third read in a few years. Brian Blackstone is destroyed by his wife's death and leaves town the day after her funeral to go anyplace to escape her memories. She has inherited a huge manor house in England from a favorite aunt which Brian knows nothing about but he ends up in England after 2 years of running away down to his last few dollars and physically ill. What he doesn't know is that he will find a cure of his physic [...]

    18. I love a good mystery. Not gory, unthinkable yuckiness! But a good mystery with suspense that works the mind. Davis Bunn is a favorite author of mine and I've read quite a few of his books but, by far, Book of Hours, is one of my most favorite reads. A mysterious letter is sent to widower and he goes in search of secrets on an ancient estate. The estate aptly named Castle Keep is in need of someone to save it from destruction. Brian in his search teams up with the local doctor, Cecilia Lyons. Br [...]

    19. Lightweight warmhearted christian fiction. Not usually my choice, but it's a book club selection at my library. Brian Blackstone lost his wife two years ago to illness. Since then he's been traveling the world. Finally he arrives in an English village to take on the castle he inherited from his wife's aunt. The thing is, the castle is about to be auctioned off since the death taxes haven't been paid. Living in the downstairs flat is a retired couple and living in the little cottage on the proper [...]

    20. Despite having what I think is an uninspiring cover, I really enjoyed this book! It has a great unfolding mystery involving an old historical house in a small town in England so whats not to like. I am currently reading a lot of historical ficiton and although this is set in present day, there was enough history and old stuff to keep me really happy. The mystery didn't involve a murder so that was also refreshing. Along with a really good mystery/treasure hunt there is a tender romance and most [...]

    21. "The Book of Hours" takes place in Knightsbridge, England, a small town near London. We meet Brian Blackstone, recent widower and heir of an estate he's about to lose; Dr. Cecilia Lyons, who left the world's accolades to pursue her dream of community medicine; Vicar Trevor, who wants to preserve the community's spirital heritage by reinstalling the churches' bells to ring the hours of prayer; Hardy Seade, the seedy realtor out to make a profit for himself; and a host of supporting characters. Th [...]

    22. I just finished reading "The Book of Hours" by T. Davis Bunn. It was very enjoyable and even uplifting with its spiritual message. After his wife's death, Brian Blackstone, recently recovered from a tropical fever, returns to the English village of Knightsbridge to face an inheritance he does not want. He is poor, and he finds many questions about the place, Castle Keep. Back taxes have not been paid and the house will be lost at auction in a week unless he comes up with over one million dollars [...]

    23. The Book of Hours is an interesting Christian novel both historical and a mystery. Set in a small town in England, the story revolves around Brian Blackstone, a young man who has inherited Castle Keep from his deceased wife. The estate is about to be foreclosed and sold to entrepreneurs who plan to demolish it. Brian and his new friends in the village discover a sequence of letters from his wife’s deceased Aunt. The letters, each with a puzzle to solve, reveal many secrets hidden at the estate [...]

    24. I found this book at a garage sale and the front cover drew my attention because it had a cat on it and the back description sealed the deal. Set in an ancient English village the characters are very colorful and interesting and the secrets of the inherited crumbling manor house are absolutely fascinating. There is history, mystery, sadness and loss, a puzzle solving scavenger hunt as well some really hilarious incidents. Most of all there is a spiritually within the pages and a surprise you won [...]

    25. I really love this author. Just the way he writes makes me feel like I am in the book. This book is about a mystery. His wife has died and her Aunt left her home to him. Now he must find and answer the mystery clues the Aunt and wife left him to save the home. With the help of new friends and God, he learns more about life and it's little secrets. A really good read. Now for the bad part, it's hard to find and I had to order my book from a used book store. Would I order again? For his books, yes [...]

    26. This is a great book! If you like mysteries with a human touch, this book is one you will probably enjoy. There are several stories woven into one in this book. Bunn often weighs down the beginning of his books with descriptions of the characters to the point that they become difficult to wade through. This book is not like that. He weaves the character descriptions into the story very well.I really enjoyed this book. It was one of those that made my housework wait. I read it in a very short tim [...]

    27. The Book of Hours was a nice, wholesome mystery/romance. The male character was grieving, and the female character had a few issues, but the imagery and dialog were just lovely. It is by a Christian fiction author, but it was not preachy at all. However, God was present throughout the book. I have recommended this book and given it as gifts to my mother and daughter. Both loved it. I've also recommended it to others as well. Funny--everytime I give away a copy of the Book of Hours, somehow I eit [...]

    28. I first discovered this book in the small library of the First Baptist Church in Littlefield, TX. I was the youngest "patron", signing my name on the card under names like Phyllis and Bettye. Several of my favorite books were unearthed here, but "The Book of Hours" is by far my favorite. It has all of my favorite things: God, England, expats, mystery, and adorable elderly couples. Nothing heavy or complex, but it has a little something special.
